Met on arrival by air or rail, contract signed, then check in to your city-centre hotel. The rest of the day is yours - wander Houzi Street, Nanmenkou or the Seventy-Two Wonder Buildings for street food, or simply rest up for tomorrow's long day on the mountain.

Enter Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and ride the Bailong Elevator on a VIP reserved car - the glass lift built into the cliff face. Explore Yuanjiajie, whose floating sandstone peaks inspired the landscapes of Avatar, then Tianzi Mountain for its sea of stone pillars, and finish along the Ten-Mile Natural Gallery. In the evening, watch the Charming Xiangxi stage show.

Tianmen Mountain by express cable car, with the twin escalators up to Heaven's Gate cave. Continue to Huangshizhai, the finest viewing platform in Zhangjiajie, reached by return cable car, then walk the clear water and shaded gorge of Jinbian Creek.

Visit the Tujia King Palace, then Furong Town, the thousand-year settlement built above a waterfall, explored by boat and electric cart. Arrive in Fenghuang Ancient Town for the evening and the water and light spectacular on the river.

Catch the ancient town at dawn, when the stilt houses reflect in the still water, then take a daytime cruise on the Tuojiang River. After lunch, the coach returns to Zhangjiajie for your onward transfer home.
